Working Together Towards A Sustainable Future
At The Club Company, everything begins with wellbeing
Striving towards a more sustainable future is a shared benefit for us all, so we are working alongside our team members and suppliers to support the environmental and social needs around us.
We are the custodians of over 3,000 acres of land and have a unique responsibility to drive positive change for our local environment and the wellbeing of everybody visiting our clubs.

Environment & Sustainability
We are committed to lessening or eliminating any adverse effect on the environment. Here are just some of the initiatives in place:
- 75% of our clubs now have solar panels installed, with more planned installations
- We only use chemicals that are environmentally friendly and use biodegradable cleaning agents wherever possible
- We source environmentally responsible products, for example paper from environmentally sustainable woodlands (FSC certified), and recycled packaging
- We encourage sustainable travel through our Cycle to Work scheme and bike racks at several of our clubs

Solar power at our clubs
We are delighted that 75% of our clubs are now generating their own solar power, adding a big contribution towards our ESG goals. After just 10 weeks of usage at Woodbury Park we saved 5,143kg of CO2 emissions - that’s the equivalent of planting 311 trees!

59Club Sustainability Award
We were proud to be awarded the 59Club Sustainability Award 2023, an award that focuses on sustainability initiatives implemented by golf clubs. We are committed to implementing sustainable practices across all our clubs, from innovative energy-saving technologies to ethical resource management, each of our clubs plays a vital role in reducing our environmental impact.
Wildlife & Conservation
We have a duty to promote and maximise the biodiversity value of the wildlife and habitats of our golf courses.
- We use minimal nutrients on the golf course, only applying fertilisers as and when necessary
- We ensure chemical usage is kept to a minimum. Fungicides are only used during high disease pressure months. Herbicides are generally selective and applied once a year to certain areas, avoiding high flora and fauna areas
- We’ve introduced bird and bat boxes, bug & insect hotels and bee hives
- Areas of deep rough are left to grow for wildflowers and insects
- We restrict our tree cutting to six foot off ground level when raising the canopy and only remove trees when absolutely necessary

Water Management
We employ a cautious approach to water management to minimise impact on wildlife in our ponds and waterways.
- All water usage is in line with current environmental legislation, irrigating based on weather and observed ground and turf conditions
- The clubs responsibly use water from reservoirs, boreholes and mains water, regulated by abstraction limits set by the Environment Agency
- Hand watering is used to limit the number of automated programmes for unnecessary water consumption
- Hotels and clubhouses have timers on taps to reduce unnecessary water usage
- Plans are in place to build water storage at certain clubs, with the aim to have all golf course irrigation away from mains water by 2030

The Warwickshire
Sustainable & Ethical Water Usage At The Club
The Warwickshire has been fully committed to using more sustainable outputs for its water management across all its 470 acres of land. All water needed for their courses is ethically sourced from the club’s lakes, minimising reliance on external sources.
In addition to this, a borehole is available to supplement their lake water if ever needed, ensuring a steady supply without tapping into the mains. This allows The Warwickshire to maintain its extensive grounds in an eco-friendly, sustainable way, all whilst respecting environmental conservation principles.
Waste & Energy
- Of our 22 buildings surveyed on 17 properties, 3 received A energy ratings, 16 B ratings and 3 C ratings – much higher than the requirement of E and all indexing higher than equivalent aged buildings
- Energy efficient light bulbs have been installed throughout the company, saving over 100,000kwh per annum
- CHP (combined heat and power) plants are in place at five sites, seeing an energy use reduction of up to 13% as a result
- EV charging points are now available at 13 of our clubs, with more on the way
- All new swimming pools will have automated covers for better heat loss prevention in return using less energy
- We’re moving away from paper towels to air driers in our toilets and changing rooms
- Hotel rooms have key cards in the rooms so unnecessary electricity is not used when rooms are empty

Greetham Valley
The club has solar panels installed on the driving range (30KW) and the roof of the hotel (8KW), along with biomass boilers for the heating and hot water to the hotel.
The two biomass boilers benefit from the government RHI scheme, which covers the running costs of the boilers and the supply of the woodchip, effectively benefitting from the costs covered for heating and hot water. The club also has electric heaters in the hotel rooms aside from the supply provided by the biomass boilers.

Cams Hall Estate
The fabulous new 16m swimming pool at The Club at Cams Hall Estate boasts an impressive super energy efficient Aquatop Covrex automatic cover. This stylish and innovative cover provides enhanced insulation properties that are crucial for helping the club achieve its ESG goals. Investment in innovative products that promote a more responsible and sustainable future, demonstrates just how committed The Club Company is to reducing its carbon footprint.
Some of the key benefits of pool cover include:
Water conservation – less water evaporation from a covered pool, allows us to conserve this precious resource.
Energy savings – cover reduces heat loss, so smaller carbon footprint as less energy required to maintain water temperature.
Reduction in chemical usage – overnight pool is protected from debris, which means fewer chemical treatments are required.
From a social health and safety perspective, the cover provides a critical safety barrier.
People & Community
We really do see ourselves as part of the community at each club, which can be seen by the incredible generosity of our members and visitors who raised over £200,000 for local and national charities over the last 12 months.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR...

2018 - 2020
LED Light Bulbs
LED light bulbs have been installed throughout the group, saving an average of over 100,000 kWh per annum
CHP Plants
Combined heat and power (CHP) plants have been installed at five of our clubs. These use gas to generate electric with less impact on fossil fuels. The conversion of gas to electric produces heat which is then used in our clubs to heat swimming pools and water, further reducing our energy use. These clubs have experienced up to a 13% reduction in energy used.

2021 - 2022
Recycling
We made it a priority to reduce waste by sourcing ethical, recyclable packaging and embracing innovative, sustainable solutions to minimise our environmental impact.
Supply Chain Code of Conduct
Our top 20 suppliers signed up to the supply chain code of conduct.
Cycle to work
Our Cycle to Work scheme was introduced to help our team stay active and improve their health and wellbeing. The scheme also reduces the level of traffic and carbon emissions generated in the local communities.
Avoiding Landfill
99% of our waste avoided landfill in 2021. Through working with our partner 1st Waste Management, energy from using waste incineration processes turned mixed waste into reusable electricity and heat.

2023 - 2024
EV Charging
We introduced EV charging points throughout a number of our clubs, including EV mowers for golf course maintenance. Currently, we have a total of 53 EV charging points located across a total of 13 club venues, with more still to come
Incentives for Eco-Friendly Choices
We introduced the initiative to invite members to bring along their own reusable coffee cups, helping to reduce our waste within the cafes. We also offer our members the opportunity to bring home the used coffee grounds for recycling purposes.
Biohygiene products
We have moved towards the use of Biohygiene products, offering a number of benefits such as biodegradable ingredients, reduced carbon footprint & minimal water pollution. We have estimated the savings in 2024 of the following:
Transport Saving: 41% | SKU Reduction: 33% | Plastic Reduction: 58% | Carbon Reduction: 88% | Storage Reduction: 39%
Solar Panels - now at 75% of our clubs
Since January 2024 we have successfully installed solar power at the majority of our clubs. These saved a total 30.668 kg of CO2 emissions within less than a year - the equivalent of planting 1,855 trees.
