Padel tennis arrives at two clubs this summer

Latest News

Padel tennis arrives this summer at The Tytherington and The Essex, with two outdoor ‘starter courts’ initially available at each location with a view to installing permanent courts once uptake and popularity has been assessed. Courts can be booked by both members and non-members, and members at nearby Benton Hall will be able to use the courts at The Essex and apply the same member discount to their sessions.

Deemed the fastest growing racket sport, Padel tennis is an easy sport to master and is accessible for a broad range of ages, abilities and fitness levels. This makes it a great addition to The Club Company’s country club offerings, suitable for both adults and juniors.

A racket sport of Mexican origin, Padel tennis is typically played in doubles on a 20 x 10 metre enclosed court. It is often described as a mixture between squash and tennis – however despite sharing the same scoring system as tennis, the rules, strokes, and technique differ. Though similar, the balls used are low-bouncing with less pressure.

The main differences are that the court has walls and the balls can be played off them, similar to a game of squash where solid, stringless bats are used. The other main difference to tennis is that the serve is underarm, and therefore easier to master.

We have partnered with Platomic, the biggest Padel booking App in Europe, to provide members and guests with an easy way to book and manage their Padel sessions, with the option to book and pay under one player or split the payment between four people. All members will benefit from an introductory 50% discount on court fees.

This is a really exciting time for Padel tennis in the UK, and we are proud to be able to make these courts available for members and visitors interested to try something new.
